1. Where were you born/raised?
Born in Lincoln; raised in Geneva, NE; back in Lincoln since 2001
2. How long have you been involved in personal training?
I became a Registered Dietitian in 2007 after practicing as a Registered Dietitian Technician since 2004 and working as a caterer/line cook for 3 years prior to that.
3. Where did you get your training/schooling?
Southeast Community College, Lincoln—AAS, Culinary Art
University of Nebraska, Lincoln—BS and MS, Nutrition and Health Science
4. Why do you want to participate as a trainer in this challenge?
I became a dietitian because I have a passion for helping people improve their health and reach their goals. This is precisely what the challenge is about!
5. What are your words of wisdom for your soon-to-be team members?
Don’t follow any “diet” that you aren’t willing or able to maintain for the rest of your life. I encourage people not to think in terms of “dieting”, but rather in terms of gradual changes to healthier eating habits. Also, there is no certain meal plan that works for everyone. Don’t be afraid to experiment with foods and snacks—you may be surprised what achieves results for YOU!
6. What do you hope for your team members to achieve by being a part of your team?
Better health & quality of life, as well as a positive attitude about eating right! I’d also love it if they’d develop a desire to get in the kitchen and experiment, armed with some delicious and healthy recipes!
7. Any other fun/interesting facts about you that people would want to know.
I’m a 10-time Lincoln Marathon/Half-Marathon participant, and my favorite food is ice cream.
